Chamaedorea metallica

This small palm is from the forest floor and rarely sees the sun in its native habitat. The perfect house plant.


Common Name: Miniature Fishtail Palm
Origin: Mexico
Typical Height: 2 to 3 ft
Stem: Solitary, dark green, ⅜ to ½ in., ringed, not unlike bamboo
Leaf: Named for its black/silver, green undivided leaves, with a metallic sheen.
Fruit: Small, black, borne on a brilliant orange flower stalk.
Cultivation: This slow-growing Chamaedorea is just now starting to be recognized for its adaptability. OUTDOORS – Used in the understory as a ground cover in group plantings, it adds a depth few plants can match. INDOORS – Excellent for a desk top or coffee table. Keep on the dry side. Hardiness Zones 9B-11.
